The Manor of Fyling Court Leet
The Court Leet is priviledged to be the guardian of the 6,911 acres of moorland which are common to the Parishes of Hawsker-cum-Stainsacre and Fylingdales.
Early in 1999 the whole of the moor was designated a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' (SSSI) and so became subject, in certain respects, to the supervision by English Nature, however the Court remains responsible for the preservation and improvement of the Common - for heather management and bracken control, for resistance to encroachments and misuse of any kind.
