Right on the headland, 199 steps up from the cobbled quayside next door to the famous ruined Abbey. . Relax in the historic gardens or spend a day on one of the nearby sandy beaches. Explore the nearby North York Moors on foot or bike or Whitby town with it's independent shops and rich history. Take a walk along the Cleveland Way to Robin Hoods Bay. YHA Whitby is a great base for exploring the coastline and countryside.
The Hostel is situated next to the Abbey and the famous St Mary's church & graveyard - Famous for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'. There are museums dedicated to Captain Cook, Whitby history & fossils and Whitby 'Jet'. The safe and sandy beaches are great for children and the town offers various festivals throughout the year, including the twice yearly Goth weekends, remaining a lively resort even in winter. Situated on the Cleveland way, there are excellent cliff-top walks locally.
