Each year in the summer Whitby is the host to Whitby Folk week; a seven day festival of singing and dancing in the towns cobbled streets. This celebration of the tradition and heritage of British folk music and dance has become such a long standing event since it began in 1965 that it has become a tradition in itself and is an event not to be missed for any music lover.

Practically every street corner boasts its own musician or dance troop plying their talents. Now encompassing over 600 different acts and events, as well as new ones each year, Whitby Folk Week is a family friendly hit with tourists and locals alike.
