Sailing yachts and boating are obviously extremely popular in Whitby and the surrounding area. Whitby has an excellent marina offering moorings to both locals and visitors, and the port is accessible in all states of the tide. Only in really seriously heavy weather does it become inaccessible - but the harbour and marina are highly protected from the stormy seas at such times by the extensive piers and pier extensions.
