A friendly, family-run establishment with stunning panoramic coast views, stretching from Sandsend to the North to Whitby’s impressive harbour entrance.

The Riviera is in a prime location, being a stone’s throw from Whitby’s golden sands and is within easy walking distance of local attractions and amenities, which include the Whitby Spa Pavilion, Pannett Park, the Captain Cook Memorial, Whitby Abbey, boat trips, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Pubs, restaurants and cafés aplenty are on the doorstep.

Whitby itself has connections to the explorer Captain Cook, Bram Stoker (who wrote the Gothic classic Dracula) and a fascinating history. Nearby places to visit include Robin Hoods Bay, the North York Moors National Park and Ravenscar.

The Riviera is situated in an elegant terrace on the West Cliff part of the town. We have cosy beds, spotlessly clean rooms and a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast for our guests.

We offer freshly cooked breakfasts, including the Full Yorkshire Breakfast (grilled bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, grilled tomato, mushrooms, beans and a choice of egg); you could try the local delicacy Whitby Kippers, scrambled egg with smoked salmon; or perhaps indulge in a continental breakfast. If you’re vegetarian or gluten-free, we’ve also got this covered.

One aspect of staying by the seaside that can be a worry is parking but here at the Riviera, it’s simple and straightforward. You can obtain temporary permits from us that allow you to park in designated zones very close to the guesthouse. We will direct you to these upon your arrival.
