Crammed full with well known songs, including “Food Glorious Food”, “Pick a Pocket or Two” as well as the less often heard, but witty, “That’s your Funeral”, the theme tune for Mr Sowerberry the undertaker (Allen Hall) and his wife (Linda Tester), the show is set to open to packed houses With lively musical numbers, dances and a good smattering of pathos as well as humour, this is a timeless musical which has been loved by several generations.
This production is the product of the now regular collaboration between Deborah Jones (Producer / Director) and Richard Benson (Musical Director). Both with an eye for detail, they have worked with a wide range of performers with many and varied ranges of experience and have produced another great piece of entertainment.
Follow young Oliver (Jolley Gosnold/Joshua Kenyon) on his journey from rags to riches, helped by Nancy (Angie Owen), a graduate of Fagin’s (Tom Todd) academy for pick pockets. Watch as his progress is interrupted by the persuasive charms of Fagin and his gang and the evil influence of Bill Sykes (Dave Blaker) - once one of Fagin’s gang of boys. See his friendship with the Artful Dodger (Megan Danby / James Morrissey) get him into trouble. Will Oliver escape from the clutches of the London underworld and find happiness and the love he so longs for? His journey is fraught with set backs, but Oliver is a determined young man and knows he is destined for better things when he meets the kindly Mr Brownlow (David Tester).
“Oliver“ opens on May 2nd and runs through to May 7th, nightly at 7.30pm. There are still tickets available from the Box Office on 01751 474833, which is open daily from 11am - 1pm. Tickets are priced at £6 each, £5 for concessions and a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) at £20.
