We are lucky enough to have a return visit from Kevin Thaw, The North Face sponsored athlete and climber, who will be lecturing on the 24th of November in Glaisdale. Make sure you bag a ticket. Kev will be entertaining us with his new show, Big Walls to Breadfruit which documents his latest travels and climbs in Patagonia, Nepal and on Pitcairn Island.
Kev will need no introduction to many of you but to those who aren't familiar with him he was born and raised in Uppermill and served a hard gritstone 'apprenticeship' before making many varied and difficult ascents in the Alps, Himalayas, Patagonia and Africa.
Now a full time professional climber and guide, Kevin has been called one of the best all-round climbers in Britain, and with his move to California several years ago, he is now a major player on the American climbing scene. His illuminating talk for us last year touched on experiences in the Himalaya, Mali and Patagonia and included an account of 2003's summer's gritstone test piece on Wimberry – 'Order of the Phoenix'. You didn't necessarily need to be a climber to appreciate this lecture as Kevin kept everyone spellbound during what was a splendid evening with a fantastic turnout.
