Old Photos of Whitby

Post by admin » Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:17 pm

We've kindly received another donation of old photographs. The source and date are not entirely certain - and some of the content is not definitely from Whitby. Some obviously are though! We think all of them are dated from around 1939.

Anyone recognise the content of any of the less obvious ones?

The bridge over the river and castle are of Richmond, North Yorkshire

The one of the River bend with shingle on the right looks like the River Swale at the top of Brompton on Swale as you head towards Richmond. I grew up in Brompton on Swale and the view is one I am very familiar with. It would tie in with others of Richmond Castle and the Swale.

Thanks for the additional info. We were misinformed I think. I'll lose or re-label the shots which are clearly not of Whitby in due course.

Thanks again,
