Graveleys Fish Restaurant

Post by DSA » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:34 pm

The Magpie was closed and the only reason we had not been to Graveley's thus far was that a waitress at the Magpie said it wasn't all that good, in particular the battered medley for two. We thought of Mandy Rice Davies, 'Well, she would say that, wouldn't she.'

Graveley's has had a number of incarnations including being the only Khyber Restaurant which did not serve a curry. Our youngish waiter remembered that and politely laughed at my joke.

Just the plain truth from now: The soup was tomato and came with a couple of tomato flavoured rolls, but it was not quite hot enough. We then went for the battered medley for two at £29.95. It came out pretty quickly and I admit there is no notice asking patrons to be patient as their food is cooked individually. The salmon was overdone because it had not been cooked individually but had waited to its detriment on a hotplate while we finished our soup.

'Is everything alright for you,' the rhetorical question.
'Not really, the salmon is cooked to a frazzle.'
'I'll tell the chef sir.'

We took pity on the queue outside in the sleet and quickly left.
Again, 'Was everything alright for you?'
'Well, apart from the burnt salmon.'
'I told the chef, but...'

We left realizing the waitress from the Magpie had a point.
