Ruswarp Post Office

Post by DSA » Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:09 pm

I want to protest about the closing of Ruswarp Post Office. It’s busy place and a well-stocked general store in a vibrant village. It is difficult to know who to protest to because sending observations to 'consultation@postoffice.co.uk' was clearly no more use than contacting an MP. Only one Post Office in North Yorkshire was reprieved during consultation and that was in Harrogate.

It would be interesting to learn how much it was costing to keep the Post Office open. Now the business is closing completely and that includes newspapers, fresh vegetables and groceries. Lots of people walked to Ruswarp along the Monks’ Path to shop, call at the butchers and visit the Post Office. But will they now.

I expect the government to introduce a new policy in ten years time of opening rural Post Offices, just like they are now promoting all the railways which were closed in the past.

Another unwelcome thought is when Ruswarp people get in their cars to go to Sleights Post Office they may be tempted to call at another butcher’s shop.

Perhaps the best hope for the shop which is for sale is for it to become a café or a bread shop possibly linked to the butcher’s shop next door.

The butcher's is the best. A1+ pork pies. We don't have 'em like that down South.
