the vessel "Henry"

Post by hegel » Wed Oct 12, 2005 7:26 am

I live in Perth, Western Australia. I'm researching my family history and the 1881 census shows that my ancestor, Richard Porritt, was the master of the vessel "Henry" on census night which was berthed in Flamborough. His first mate was Henry Taylor Middleton.

I'm going to visit Whitby in December and I'll take the opportunity to view Middleton's papers in the Literary and Philosophical Society's archives but, before this, I wonder if anyone knows anything about the vessel or Richard.

If you can even point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!
