How many people visit Whitby?

Got something to say about Whitby that doesn't really fit in the other categories? Then say it in here.

How many people visit Whitby?

Post by atlasschmatlas » Thu Oct 11, 2012 6:31 pm

I am doing a research project on Whitby and the impacts of tourism and I cant find any statistics on how many visitors Whitby gets a month/year.

Would anybody be able to answer this for me or perhaps point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Try the Tourist Information office on New Quay Rd, or Scarborough Borough Council tourism department.

While looking for something else I found http://www.scarborough.gov.uk/pdf/Appen ... raisal.pdf which includes visitor numbers on page B18:

Code: Select all

Table B3: Annual visitor numbers to Whitby 2004 - 2005
Day visitors 830,000 55%
Staying visitor days 690,000 45%
Total visitor days 1,520,000 100%
This is visitor-days (number of visitors * number of days visited for) so doesn't give the total number of actual people. However, you can say that there are 126,000 visitor-days per month, about 4100 visitors per day. About 25% of the local population!
