I read in the online Gazette recently that the station refurb was going ahead - sounds like Network Rail found some year-end money in the budget!

Can anyone please say whether work has started (or finished!) and what the outcome is?

Nine months on, this is the lead story in the Whitby Gazette online today. On the ball as ever! http://www.whitbygazette.co.uk/news/Former-Whitby-record-shop-features.4003217.jp In the same edition, nice to see Botham's getting a Tea Council award and good to see a (pretty little) Botham in the acco...

Re: A Place in the Sun

Have just watched it and noted that it was filmed a few years ago, hence the price differences. Thought the places shown in Spain were horrid, although pretty big. Know where I would rather be, despite the weather! I thought I'd seen it before - though nowhere did it say it was a repeat. And despit...

Which train do you plan to catch from Scarborough to Whitby? That route has been closed for 40+ years!

I suspect not nearly enough people get to the Museum - a real small-town gem of a museum.

Ditto tea upstairs at Botham's, Skinner St. Too formal and requiring too much time for many but a wonderful blast from the past.

The Museum, one of the last of the old school of really interesting, not sanitised/kiddified/politically-corrected museums. Botham's Tea Rooms for a good cup of tea in a dying breed (again!) of proper tea shop. St Mary's Church. Go to a service! (though last time I went the vicar, who seemed to be 1...

There used to be (as there used to be a more direct route from Middlesbrough via Guisborough and Loftus) but it closed in the Beeching cuts of the 1960s. The two lines I've mentioned were very expensive to maintain because of the large numbers of tunnels and viaducts and eathworks that needed mainta...
