LANTERN COTTAGE

Lantern Cottage dates back to the early 1600s. It has recently had a facelift and it now is an enchanting little yellow cottage with a charming disposition.
It has all the comforts, but has kept the feeling, of being a fisherman’s cottage - as this is what it was 400 years ago. All of the fabrics, linen and paintwork are of a very high standard; as is the new furniture. All of the paintings are original oil paintings from Europe and New York!
There is a paved floodlit garden, which is for the sole use of Lantern cottage tenants and is perfect for eating alfresco.
A lot of time, money and love has been spent on doing up this little house so only very considerate tenants please.

THE ACCOMMODATION
The house offers comfortable accommodation for up to four people but not for the elderly or infirm.
The attic bedroom is not suitable for very small children as the staircase is open in the room.
Ground floor: An entrance hall with WC and shower/bath room are situated off a cosy sitting room complete with gas burning stove and SKY TV.
Lower ground floor: Kitchen/dining room is approached via the steep winding stairs - complete with traditional units and gas burning stove, this is the ideal place to prepare a meal after a relaxing day enjoying Whitby and the surrounding area.
1st Floor: Cosy, beautifully decorated double bedroom complete with open beams and an old brass bed (and SKY TV).
2nd Floor: The small twin bedroom, of great character, is situated within the eaves of the property. This has a fan and a radio/cd player. There is a Velux window and another window with good views over the roof tops and on to the harbour.
The Garden: This is a good sized sunny patio garden with flowers and shrubs and pots, perfect for breakfast, lunch or a barbecue supper.
Outside Storage: There is a lock up shed where suitcases, pushchairs and sandy beach stuff can be stored.
Throughout, all furnishings and bed linen are of
a very high standard.

COTTAGE LOCATION
Lantern Cottage is located in a sunny open yard which is only a right of way for the residents of Kiln Yard. You access Kiln yard through a passage way at the bottom of the 199 steps, off Church Street, which is in the old part of Whitby. Tate Hill Beach is literally a minute away.

GETTING HERE
Approaching Whitby from any direction follow signs for the town
centre. From the railway station, follow the quayside towards
the sea, and proceed over the
swing bridge. Where the road takes a sharp bend to the right, turn left up a the cobbled street. Lantern Cottage is situated directly at the foot of the 199 steps, about 300 yards.

PARKING
Outside the cottage there is off-loading only, however, there
is a nearby pay-and-display carpark.
PETS
One small dog is welcome in the off peak weeks. Of course it will have to be kept down stairs and off all the soft furnishing.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Visitors are requested to arrive after 3pm on the first day
and leave by 10am on the day of departure. Please telephone
to advise arrival time and arrange key collection. Please note
this is a no smoking house.

OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
PAYMENTS: A deposit of £100 is payable with the booking, and
is non returnable. The remainder is due six weeks prior to the date
of arrival.
CANCELLATION: In the event of cancellation we will endeavour to re-let
the house and refund the balance.
INSURANCE: We recommend that you take out your own insurance against
any losses/injury.
YOUR OBLIGATIONS: We would request that you take good care of the
cottage and its contents and leave them in the same condition as they
were on your arrival. You will be liable for the cost of any damage,
breakage or extra cleaning which are incurred during your stay. Only
the people detailed on the booking confirmation form will be entitled
to occupy the house. We may refuse entry to anyone not listed on the
booking confirmation form.
RIGHTS OF ENTRY: We reserve the right to enter into the house at reasonable
times to inspect the house and /or carry out any necessary repairs
or maintenance.
